About
the Artist
For DJ Reed,
creating portraits has always been a love. While she was young
she would draw her family and friends. This passion continued into her teens where her fascination with the human face caused her to get a true likeness. Winning awards for her artwork, she was encouraged by taking classes at the local junior college. Even when she attended a private Christian college that had no art, she formed an art club, where she and other students could do creative artwork.
She married and finished up her schooling with a BA in Fine Arts from Sonoma State University. Her primary focus at Sonoma State was studying the human figure in all types of media: paint, pencil, and clay.
She finds painting the most enjoyable form of media. Her versatility allows her to move from realistic to impressionistic styles and formal to informal poses.

As her children have been
growing, she has
spent much of her time painting commissioned portraitures, serving as
an art docent at the elementary school, creating murals, and finally
working as a part time art teacher and high school art teacher at an
international school in Uganda for a year.
She has shown her work in several places in the Bay Area as well as Virginia. Most of her works have been commissioned portraits and are therefore in numerous private collections. Her husband is currently teaching as well as going to a local seminary, but assists her with such technology needs as developing her web page, scanning photos, or assisting with photography needs.
