Can you paint from snapshots?
The information I receive is all from what you provide. I can paint from a snapshot, but if you want a nice painting you need to have a clear photo. While resolution is important (digital photos should be taken from at least a 3 MP camera which translates into 2048 pixels), it's not the only factor. The snapshot needs to be clear in form and color. If an image is clear you pretty much can print any image from any modern camera at any size. It also needs to be something that you really like. Is it a clear representation of the person? Know that if you can't see the color of the eyes in the photo, then I won't be able to paint them their true color.

Can you change a black and white photo into a colored painting?
Yes. I can change a black and white photo into a colored painting with a lot of information from you. It isn't a sure match, if you can't supply me with enough detail. Sending me samples of color is needed and we can work from there.

If I have two or more photos of different individuals, is it possible to combine them in one painting?
Yes. The photos need to have the same quality in resolution and light. It is very important that the figures have the same lighting and positioning. I will not accept an indoor photo with flash combined with an outdoor sun lighted photo. Just as people can be added, they can also be eliminated from the painting.

I want to change the background of my photo into another scene. Can you combine photos?
Yes. Just send  a photo of the scene that you want along with the photo of the individual. Below is an example of a triptych (3 canvasses) that was taken from three photos.

While this is an example of a custom fine art painting as opposed to a more expensive formal portrait, it illustrates the combining of several photos. The background was taken from a book that contained photos from the British Isle. The two boys were taken from a photo of them collecting bugs in a dry California hill. The sister was taken from another outside shot. Notice that although there were three different photos, they were all outside shots. This is important!!

How do I send you my photos?
I would rather not have the original photo sent to me unless you don't require it back (you have a double). It is best to send me a good copy of your photo. You can either mail a high resolution copy to me through snail mail or scan it with a maximun dpi and email it to me. Remember the finished product can only be as good as what it is taken from.

How long will it take you to finish the painting and for me to recieve it?
The amount of time for the painting to be done is dependent on several factors: size of canvas, whether there are other works already comissioned prior to your order, and the amount of individuals in your order. I will give you an approximate time when you order.  I will comunicate with you while I am working on your order. When we both agree on the finished product I will mail the painting (without a frame), through UPS ground. The average shipping cost is $20.00 with the price dependent on size.

Do you require a deposit?
Yes. I require a 15% deposit which is fully refundable if you are not satisfied with the final product. You may either send a check, money order, or pay through PayPal.

What if I don't have a photo? Do you arrange photography sittings?

Yes. If you can arrange to meet in Benicia, we use a Canon Rebel XT with an 85mm lens. It produces excellent portrait shots, both inside and out. Please indicate on the contact page when you would like to make an appointment.
